Obituary

Obituary for Amanda Kathleen Dean (Lough)

Amanda Kathleen Lough Dean, 62, of Nipetown Road, Martinsburg, passed away on August 24 at Hospice of the Panhandle. Born March 16, 1958, in Martinsburg, Amanda was the daughter of the late William Glenn Lough and the late Mary Louise (Kensel) Lough Effland. She was married to Paul Michael Dean for 32 years until his death on July 23, 2019.

Amanda was a homemaker. She was the person the family could always count on to remember birthdays, anniversaries and other dates of significance. She remembered people and their stories for years. She would remember things from our childhood that we had forgotten. She will be missed by so many.

Amanda is survived by her sisters, Mary Pat Wolfe (Shaun) of Boonsboro, MD and Susan Chaffin of Martinsburg; one niece, Caitlin Wolfe (Howard) Charleston, SC; two nephews, Christopher Wolfe (Ashley), Waynesboro, VA and Joshua Chaffin (Amanda), Martinsburg.; six great-nieces and nephews, Stella, Arya and Emmie Wolfe and Chloe, Sophia and Braeden Chaffin.

In addition to her parents and husband, Amanda was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Lough, her brother-in-law, William Chaffin, Cousin, John Kensel, and nephew, Daniel Chaffin.

The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and Dr. Terence Reedy at the Dorothy McCormack Center, Cancer and Infusion Center for the many years of care they gave Amanda and Paul. They were made so comfortable and happy thanks to your kindness, care and humor.

We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses in the Emergency room and 2nd floor nurses, doctors and staff who took care of Amanda in July during her final stay at WVU Medical Center for their kindness and care and willingness to keep us informed since we could not be there due to Covid restrictions.

Amanda and her husband, Paul met their many friends over the years at the Subway in the Spring Mill Walmart to chat and catch up. We would like to thank the owners and staff of Subway who were always kind and especially after Paul’s passing took the time to check in with Amanda when she came to get iced tea and sit a minute with her sister or her Home Helper aides. The world needs more of this concern and thoughtfulness.

Home Helpers of the Panhandle was a life saver for Amanda after Paul died. We want thank Michelle, Samantha and all the ladies who came to be with her and take her to Walmart until Covid interrupted the visits.

Finally, a huge thank you to the staff and especially the nurses of Hospice of the Panhandle. The care they gave in her final days was extraordinary. We cannot thank them enough.

Due to Covid Restrictions and care for everyone’s health, the burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Amanda’s memory to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
