Obituary for Daniel Burnett Hawn
Daniel B. Hawn, 89, of Martinsburg, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.
Born April 23, 1931 in Jefferson County, WV he was the son of the late Richard David and Mary Catherine Whittington Hawn.
He graduated from Martinsburg High School Class of 1950 and then attended Shepherd College. He received a full Art Scholarship to Marshall University and attended Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Courses.
He served with the US Navy as Fire Controller aboard the U.S.S. McKean during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a designer and estimator for several local construction companies, beginning with Capitol Cement and later retiring from Wilson Construction Company.
He was an active and faithful member of Blairton United Methodist Church, serving as Trustee and choir member. He was also, past president of the Martinsburg Lion's Club; the Masonic Lodge, Equality Lodge #44, Scottish Body Rite: Wheeling Consistency, WV; he was Past Patron of Golden Rule #69 Order of the Eastern Star; and was a Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of WV.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathy K. Crawford of Inwood, WV; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis J. and Crystal D. Hawn, of Martinsburg, WV; two granddaughters, Kara D. Crawford-MacFarlane and husband, Jason, and Lexy Danielle Hawn Campagna and husband, Zack; one grandson, Tyler O. Hawn; two great-grandchildren, Adriene Leah MacFarlane and Elijah Benjamin Campagna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Leah “Peachie” Tabler Hawn, whom he married in April of 1956; one brother, Richard Wayne Hawn; and one son-in-law, David R. Crawford.
The Brown Funeral Home will be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 2:00PM to 3:00PM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 followed by a memorial service at 3:00PM. An Eastern Star Service Golden Rule Chapter #69 will be held at 2:45PM on Saturday. Interment will be private. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.
