Obituary for David Lee Tumblin Sr.
David Lee Tumblin, Sr, 69, of Falling Waters, WV passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Berkeley Medical Center.
Born August 3, 1951 in Daniels, MD, he was the son of the late Jesse Davis Tumblin and Artie Jane (Church) Tumblin. Dave was predeceased by his siblings Betty Metallo, Claire “Babe” Andrews, Tom Tumblin, Elizabeth “Petie” McDaniel, and Mary “Sis” Fincham. He is survived by his sisters Shirley Shifflett, Nancy “Nanie” Hutsler, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Saffa) Tumblin; son David Tumblin, Jr. and wife Tarin of Middleway, WV, daughters Michelle Shults of Renton, WA, Kaite and husband Brian Allen of Hedgesville, WV, Allison and husband Jarred Wood of Tennessee. He was a loving Pop to his seven grandchildren; Tyler, Brayden, Makenna, and Brinley Tumblin; Leila and Jake Allen.; and Chloe Wood.
Dave grew up in Maryland and raised his family in Carroll County, MD. In 2006 he moved to Berkeley County, WV where he would spend his final retirement years.
Since Pop’s first grandchild was born, his joy was being a grandfather. Family was most important to Pop and he loved being involved in the kids’ activities. He loved coaching his children’s and grandchildren’s sports over the years. He was a boasting father and grandfather who was incredibly proud of his family. He loved large family gatherings and reunions.
He retired as a Fire Captain from the Howard County Fire Department in 1997 after 25+ years of service. He liked to golf, fish, watch his shows, play cards, spend time with his friends, volunteer with fellow retirees at an assisted living community in Scaggsville, MD, vacation, and watch his grandkids play sports. Over the years he had several dogs that he is now reunited with.
Service and interment are private.
