Obituary for Iva English (Hemp)

Iva Hemp English, DCE, 94, of Martinsburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Berkeley Medical Center.

Born February 12, 1926 in Augusta County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Otie McCutchan Hemp and Arbra Pauline (Berry) Hemp.

During her lifetime, she obtained her Doctorate in Christian Education (DCE) and worked as a teacher for over 50 years including Berkeley County Schools and Antietam Bible College. She was a member of Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of almost 74 years, Millard Bennett English, DCE; son, Bennett L. English; daughter, Cynthia L. Knight; brother, Joe Lester Hemp; sister; Ruby Switzer; two grandchildren, James and Michael Knight; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas, and McCutchan Hemp; and two sisters, Mary Catherine Hutchens and Evalyn Switzer.

The Brown Funeral Home will be open for family to receive friends from the hours of 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 2, 2020.Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.

Service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Corey Bane officiating. Entombment will be in Maranatha Memorial Gardens.
