Obituary for Lula Mae Minghini (Dunham)

Lula Mae Dunham Minghini, 88, of Glengary, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Berkeley Springs Center, LLC.

Born May 30, 1932 in Glengary, she was the daughter of the late G. Ellsworth Dunham and Zoie Mason Dunham Walker. Lula was raised by her beloved stepfather, the late Lloyd "Pap" Walker.
She attended McCubbin Hollow, Glengary Elementary schools and Hedgesville High School.

She was an active member of Ganotown United Methodist Church since 1948, where she served as an organist and a pianist, a former Sunday School teacher, a president of W.S.C.S., and a church representative of Asbury Home in Gaithersburg, MD.

She was a member of the Glengary CEO's Extension Homemakers, a Postmaster of the Glengary Post Office for ten years and worked at Perfection Garment. She was also active in the Back Creek Valley School PTA, receiving a lifetime membership in 1976.

She and her husband, George, owned and operated Minghini’s Grocery, at the corner of Glengary crossroads from 1962 to 1972. She also owned and operated The Green Scene Greenhouse in Glengary as a hobby for seven years.

She was a homeowner who loved cooking, baking, enjoyed making crafts, playing the organ and piano. Her hobbies were ceramics, painting, crosswords, sewing, quilting, and researching local history and genealogy. She loved outdoors and nature tending to flowers, gardening and loved watching the hummingbird’s feed. Her other joy and love were her three grandchildren making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and swinging on the porch teaching them to sing folk songs. She was blessed with three great grandchildren who she loved an adored.

Surviving are sons, Wayne L. Minghini (Karen) of Inwood, Joey D. Minghini (Marcia) of Hedgesville; grandchildren, Chad D. Minghini (Ashley), Candance Jo Wood (Matt), and Ayla J. Minghini, all of Hedgesville; great-grandchildren, twins Baylee and Preslee Minghini and Zoey Wood, all of Hedgesville

She was preceded in death by her husband, of 70 years, George Washington Minghini who passed away four months ago; a sister, Helen Dunham Kees; step brothers, Laurence, Enloe, Donald, and Claud Walker; and step sisters, Iva Lee Hollis, and Edna Brittian.

The Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood will be open to receive friends only from the hours of 6:00 PM to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Central Chapel Cemetery in Ganotown.
