Obituary for Mary Ann Kammeier (Altendahl)
Mary A. Kammeier, 88, of Inwood, WV, and Springfield, VA, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at home in the company of her husband and son. She was born on Aug. 6, 1932, in New Munich, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry P. and Anna M. Altendahl of New Munich, Minnesota.
Mary was a graduate of St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1952 to 1954 and was discharged by reason of marriage to her husband in 1954. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, retired Marine Capt. Cyril L. Kammeier, daughter, Deborah A. Lee; sons Keith and John Kammeier.
As a wife of a career Marine who was frequently deployed, she spent a career as a homemaker and as a volunteer for schools, libraries, a senior residence in Burke, Virginia, and the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg. She loved gardening; her favorite flowers were irises.
Mary was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church.
Services and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date and time.
