Obituary for Richard Lee Bednarski

Richard Lee Bednarski, 78, of Martinsburg, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2020, with his family by his side.

Born December 9, 1941, in Adena, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Bednarski and Helen (Konkoleski) Bednarski.

Richard served in the US Army and worked for the Federal Government for over 40 years, first at the Pentagon and then the Internal Revenue Service. He was an avid horseshoe and softball pitcher, and a member of the Moose Lodge 120 of Martinsburg, and the Red Men Lodge 84 of Williamsport, Maryland. He loved hunting, cooking, gardening, watching the Redskins, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Lucille (Miller) Bednarski; a son, Brian Bednarski and wife, Jennifer of Martinsburg; two daughters, Rhonda Foreman and husband, Keith of Martinsburg; and Jocelyn Petsko and husband, Geoffrey of Morgantown; grandchildren, Jessica, Jared, Matthew, Jason, Colin, and Aidan; one brother, Alfred Bednarski; four sisters, Mary Ann Peltz, Phyllis Hagar, Loretta Dalton, and Karen Veranski; step-sons, Chris Matteoda and wife, Jackie; and Mark Matteoda; step-grandchildren, Christine, Melissa, Melanie, Tiffanie, and Stefanie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Felgemaker; and his first wife, Sharon L. Bednarski, and a daughter, Stacey Renee Bednarski.

The Brown Funeral Home will be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Minister Leonard Fyke officiating.

Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery.
