Obituary for Wayne Franklin Haynes

Wayne Franklin Haynes, 81, of Martinsburg passed away from this life on August 19, 2020 at Berkeley Medical Center. Leaving behind his weary, sick earthly body, he took Jesus’ hand and walked off into everlasting life.

Wayne was born in Alexandria, VA, on July 25, 1939 to the late Ernest D. Haynes and Wilhelmina Haynes.

He was a graduate of Groveton High School and the University of Maryland (Go Terps!). He was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. In healthier years, he was a member of the Crusader Sunday School class and served the church on various committees. Wayne was proud to serve his country with a 55-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency. While serving, he was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal for exceptional achievement, the Honorable Service Medal, and the CIA citation for sustained, superior performance during March and April 1975 in South Vietnam. He was evacuated by helicopter from Saigon on April 29, 1975. His career took him to many places including, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Sudan, and Kuwait. Wayne was a 32-degree Mason, a member since 1968 of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Tokyo, Orient of Japan, and Korea. He also volunteered as an Educator Docent at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a past member of the Inwood Bunker hill Lions Club.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Rebecca Williams Haynes; children, Deborah and Stephen Marshall, of Gore, VA, Michael Haynes of Winchester, VA, and Robert and Lisa Haynes of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Chris and Tina Haynes of Otto, NC, Jennifer and Brandon Floyd of Winchester, VA, Katelynn Haynes of Winchester, VA, Mary Marshall of Gore, VA, Stephanie Marshall of Winchester, VA, Clifford Haynes of Wilmington, NC, and Gavin Haynes of Wilmington, NC; great grandchildren, Aiden Spence of Tennessee, Wesley Howard of Otto, NC, and Alex Davis of Otto, NC; and great great grandchildren, Dominic and Sophia, and a sister Patricia Bettis.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest G. Haynes; and beloved daughter-in-law, Victoria Haynes.

Memorial contributions in Wayne’s name may be made to Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, P.O Box 327, Bunker Hill, WV, 25413.
